In 2021, I landed in Canada not knowing how to fix a bike, not knowing how to cook, not knowing the law, not understanding how money worked in a country that owed me nothing familiar. Everything had to be learned from zero.
I taught myself to fix my first bike from videos online. I taught myself to cook the same way: paste a recipe, read it, try it, burn it, try again, until I could put together a real meal. That was the seed of Ji-Kitchen, long before I knew it would become an app.
Then I started hearing about, and eventually living through, landlords who weren't kind. I learned the law, learned tenant rights, just to protect myself, and picked up Canada's second-hand culture along the way, something no newcomer sees coming. Years later, when I became a landlord myself, I stood on the other side of that same fight, dealing with difficult tenants, and realized knowing the law isn't a privilege for one side. It's something everyone needs, whichever side of the lease you're on. Living with young student roommates, I saw how much career guidance mattered, and wanted to bring that in too, along with the small everyday tips and tricks I picked up over the years here. That's how Ji-Sovereign was born: bilingual in English and Vietnamese, a friendly Ghibli-style interface, fully offline so anyone, anywhere can look up the law, career paths, and everyday tips the moment they need them.
I learned to file taxes. I learned TFSA, FHSA, RRSP, employer matching, saving through GICs, one concept at a time, until I finally understood where this financial system actually stood in my life. That's why Ji-Finance exists: so no one else has to spend years fumbling before understanding their own money.
Studying for the CELPIP exam, I taught myself English seriously for the first time, and found methods that actually worked. Living with a Spanish-speaking roommate gave me the itch to learn a second new language. Ji-Logo grew out of that, so others don't have to stumble through finding a method the way I did.
And underneath all that practical learning, I stayed curious about astrology, about the small spiritual habits I grew up with back home. Ji-Astro is where that part lives: one familiar corner in a country that's still, in many ways, foreign.
Five years, five apps. Not a business plan drawn up in advance, but lessons I had no choice but to teach myself to settle into a new country. Jasmiris is where I've gathered all of it, so whoever comes next doesn't have to find their own way through it alone.
